From reducing meat consumption to shopping locally, there are lots of wallet-friendly and accessible options to reduce the carbon footprint of your food. No one can do this perfectly, and food isn't the only way to live a more sustainable life so don't overthink it, every little helps!

Located in the West End on 200 Morrison Street, The Eco Larder is a friendly family run zero waste supermarket that put planet and people before profit. They are aimed at making a community in order to tackle the problem of plastic waste in Edinburgh. With subscription boxes, huge instore choices and carefully selected products, Eco Larder has made reducing waste in your life much more practical, pragmatic and simple.

The Refillery is a plastic free grocery and ethical goods store on 39 Newington Rd, so great for those living in flats or student accommodation in Newington. The whole emphasis on this shop is to make refilling a simple, convenient pleasure not a tiresome chore and accelerate the plastic free grocery revolution. They stock refillable wholefoods, oils, vinegars, household cleaning and personal care items alongside seasonal organic fruit and vegetable, fresh organic eggs and locally baked fresh bread.

Located just a five-minute walk from George Square in Marchmont (23 Argyle Pl), this low packaging local store is your go to shop for refills, organic, vegan and gluten free products, with freshly baked goods and health products as well. Super convenient if you live in Marchmont or have some spare time in George Sq.

With one store on Brougham Street in Tolcross (EH3 9JH) and another on Broughton Street (EH1 3JU), Real Foods has been at the forefront of natural food retailing and is the largest Scottish retailer of Organic, Fairtrade and Special Diet foods for 50 years! They have an extensive range of ingredients in store and countless products on their online store from household products to superfoods. Definitely worth checking it and popping into next time you’re nearby.
